Do I need to be able to play an instrument?
Basic ability helps, and Chapter 2 covers exactly how much you actually need — roughly two months of consistent practice to become self-sufficient. You do not need to be good. Your imperfect playing is worth more than a perfect programmed part, and the guide explains why.
Is this an anti-AI guide?
No. There's a full chapter on where AI genuinely earns its place, and 33 prompts built for gap-filling. The argument is about order, not opposition. AI gets a real job — it just doesn't get to decide what your song is.
What DAW does this work with?
Any of them. The techniques are DAW-agnostic — signal chains, EQ moves, timing values, and mastering targets translate everywhere. Examples reference Studio One Pro but nothing is locked to it.
What format is it?
